Investigation of Hazardous Substances Transformation in Groundwater and Amending Water Pollution Control Standards (Third project)

Absrtact
This project is to investigate the groundwater contamination potential of hazardous materials from sunrise industries, concerned contaminants distribution in river basin, as well as to establish the controlling strategies of concerned contaminants in groundwater. To investigate the groundwater contamination potential of hazardous materials from sunrise industries. Subject of the investigation is the pharmaceutical biotech industry and specialty chemicals industry. According to manufacturing process, application of chemicals, wastewater treatment facilities and characteristics of wastewater select investigation factories. From the site visits and two-staged groundwater, soil and sediment quality assays on these factories. Concerned emerging contaminants include antibiotic, non-antibiotic, polybrominated diphenyl ethers(PBDEs), nonyl phenol and other pharmaceutical residuals. The result of investigation shows that the Cefazolin, Chlortetracycline, Diclofenac and Sulfamethoxazole are more significant than other. This project based on the type and characteristic of contaminants chose three river basin to investigate the nearly potential sources of effluents, and various environmental media quality. There are Tamsui River which is main of sewage, Ke-Ya River which is main of industrial wastewater and Donggang River which is main of livestock wastewater. Tamsui River and Donggang River are to investigate the distribution of antibiotic, non-antibiotic and other pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) in the environment. Ke-Ya Rive is to investigate the distribution of heptadecafluorooctanesulfonic acid(PFOS), perfluorooctanoic acid(PFOA), etc. The investigation results of Tamsui River and Donggang River, found ng/L~μg/L concentrations of PPCPs in various environmental media. On the other hand, the investigation of Ke-Ya River found concentration range of PFOS and PFOA about several tens of ng / L ~hundreds μg / L. The result shows human activities and animal husbandry does affect the environment of river basin and potential threat to humans. Suggest that we should continue to focus on the environment of river basin. The results provide fundamental information for amending the monitoring standard and regulating standards of groundwater in the future. This project refers to domestic and foreign research reports and databases to establish physical-chemical and toxicology data. At present, data have been gathered for 148 contaminant candidates, of which 13 as priority controlled contaminants. To handle the expert consultations, discussions for logical and rationality of priority controlled contaminants. Base on that contaminant candidates list, this project investigate groundwater of 40 groundwater monitoring wells, containing sampling and detection. Aforementioned results and suggestions could submit to competent authorities as practical implementation references.
